A new 5.1 patch of CEREC for chairside restoration with restorations has received several improvements. THESE DEVICES REQUIRE AN UPDATE OF THE OPERATING SYSTEM TO WINDOWS 10 FOR CEREC SW GENERATION 5
The requirement for an update of the CEREC AC Omnicam to the Generation 5 software is a Windows 10 operating system in a special version for use with CEREC, which has been provided with special drivers.
Depending on the model, the device must either be upgraded with the so-called “performance package”, which consists of a new SSD hard drive, a RAM upgrade and the Windows 10 license. Older systems require a new computer with the appropriate performance.
This can be seen from the hardware status, which is a small sticker on the back of the Omnicam computer. If the first number here is 1 or 2, the computer must be swapped. The update to Windows 10 is a necessary step for the manufacturer to ensure that the CEREC system is future-proof. Because on January 14, 2020, Microsoft’s official support for Windows7 expired (End of Life (EOL) status). This means that no new updates are made available for the Windows 7 operating system; the systems become insecure. Windows 7 was introduced back in 2009. The system will therefore be over eleven years old in 2020 – an extremely long service life for an operating system.
